Spring Break 2017 Day 6 – Pipe Springs National Monument, Arizona
So, when we set out to beat the rain one day and drive the 2.5 hour trip to the North Rim instead, things got a little wonky. For example, the North Rim is closed. Not because of rock fall, as you might expect by now. But just closed for winter. I know, shocking. Fortunately we learned this an hour into our drive rather than 2.5 hours in. And we made a quick stop at the Pipe Springs National Monument on our route back.
This place was fascinating. We took a tour or the old Mormon fort pictured below. This was very interesting and worth the stop for sure. After that, we hiked the trail on the property in hunt of the dinosaur tracks we were promised to find. And immediately Bastien fell on a cactus. It was pretty awful and there was much prolonged wailing. And also at least an hour of needle plucking. I’m very glad he moved on and we enjoyed some root beer candy from the gift shop without limit for the rest of the day.
Anyway, my point is, Pipe Springs National Monument is worth it if you’re in the area.
