Craftin’ For Bastien – Weatherlope
I’ve been working hard to avoid as many epic battles with my two-year-old as possible. The key, I’ve found, is handing him the reigns as often as possible. Keeping that in mind, I developed our “Weatherlope.”

Inspired by all the preschool previews we’ve been to lately, I decided to start our days with a little weathercasting. I have Bastien look out the windows to decide what the weather is like that day. He picks out a corresponding weather icon to represent what he sees.

Then, I hand him our Weatherlope stocked with three or so activity options that correspond with the day’s weather. He gets to pick what we do! I love how thoughtful he is about all this. Mind you, I preselect activities I can live with that day, but he doesn’t know this and feels very empowered by making such a big choice.

To make our Weatherlope, I just googled “pool icon” (or whatever) to find all the pictures for the project. Then I self-laminated for lastability with clear contact paper. Pretty easy project. Pretty easy way to keep everyone happy, too.
