Save A Christmas Tree!

We have indeed been improving our paper trash reduction efforts around here. I ashamedly admit to you my absolute addiction to diaper wipes. But I’m proud to finally be able to say I’ve moved past paper towels. We got a couple of these little bundles from Costco, and they’ve been working pretty swimingly.

I can say this with confidence because we used our last paper towel just a few days before Thanksgiving. And somehow, Jim managed to prepare the entire meal and I did all of the clean-up, and we never did run out of these cloths, despite the many, many roles a paper towel might normally fill during that time. (Did I mention there were FOUR toddlers present?) Though I’m just now beginning to get used to tossing these on the floor to clean up spills. I don’t know why that felt like a hurdle, but it did.

And then just this weekend, we found yet another way to cut down our paper usage. We have this white board up on our fridge that normally keeps track of the leftovers in our fridge, lest they be forgotten. Incidentally, it’s also where I keep my tally of breast milk pumped for donation (51 ounces now!) And somehow this weekend the white board started housing our grocery list.

So as we were rushing (always with the rushing) out the door for church and grocery getting, I took a picture of the list with my iphone*. Always the tech-savvier one, Jim read the list into his fancy iphone app that converts spoken word into text. No matter, I think both approaches worked out just fine and will certainly be reused and recycled in the future.

*Another clever use for your camera phone: taking a picture to remember your parking location at amusement parks, hospitals, etc.
