And We’re Back

It’s such a sad feeling when a long holiday is over. Especially when I reflect on the fact that during it I consumed nine sticks of butter and a half gallon of heavy cream. Not all by myself. But also, not for lack of trying.

But luckily, with the passing of Thanksgiving comes Advent. Lately I have been desiring some kind of adorable Advent calendar for Bastien. But then I came to my senses and realized that he would have no patience for taking only one tiny treat out per day when there are 24 other doors to be opened, and 24 more treats to consume. And why would we wait to do this? Illogical in the eyes of a two-year-old.

But then again, isn’t everything a parent suggests illogical in the eyes of a two-year-old?

Anyway, in lieu of the Advent calendar, I’ve decided on a new kind of toddler-friendly Advent wherein we unveil one Christmas decoration per day. I tested this out a bit before committing and know it will be a big hit. Because somehow this promise has gotten him to stay in bed for the required duration three times already. Luckily, we possess a decent collection of Christmas chatzkes. And if I run out, I’ll just reserve some ornaments for him to hang on the tree.

I’ll let you know if any hilarity comes of all this. Last year Taz Bastien broke my giant snow globe all over the kitchen floor, so there is much promise of good entertainment ahead. And hey, if you come across a spiffy Advent calendar that I can pounce on when it gets marked half-off after Christmas, will you kindly leave a link in the comments? Thanks!

Happy watching and waiting…
