They Did It!

This weekend was the Detroit Free Press Marathon and Half. I am so proud of my mom who completed the half once again, even under some pretty unfavorable personal conditions (you don’t want to know).

And then there’s Jim, who completed the first leg of his work’s relay team. Go Jim! This, after a weekend of out-of-the-blue night terrors from Bastien, which are just so not cool in case you didn’t know. In fact, they are so uncool, Jim spent the night before the race in our chilly basement bedroom in order to ensure more winks. Boy, did that plan work. Unfortunately, his phone happened to die overnight, which also happened to be his alarm clock. An important little device when you’re planning to get up 3-4 hours earlier than usual. Luckily for him, Mazzy has been a compulsive barker lately, so when Jim’s teammate came to pick him up, he heard the message loud and clear. As did our favorite neighbors I’m sure. I’m expecting a letter.

So actually, while Jim’s 10K was impressive, the speed with which he got out the door and actually remembered to take all of his crucial running gear was way more impressive, IMO.

Next weekend is my half, at Niagara. As long as I don’t take a wrong turn (i.e. into the Falls), I expect all to go well. Despite the fact that Bastien also does not sleep well in strange hotel rooms.

And, in case you were keeping track, we finished the 7AM Summer Slam like a million years ago. My Mom won, of course. We are awaiting completion of all of our races before savoring our scrumptious Barbara Jeans celebratory dinner. I would tell you my stomach’s rumbling already, but, uh, it’s not because today was a long run day for me. Which equates to an evening of pizza, beer, donuts and ice cream.

Don’t ever let anyone tell you running is a healthy sport.
