7AM Summer Slam Update

Would you care for an update on our little running competition? “No-kay?” (as Bastien likes to say). Well, I’m going to update you anyway. Thanks for humoring me.
To date, we (that’s myself, Jim, & my mom) have collectively run almost 150 miles. That means we are just about half-way to some yum-diddely-umptious fine Southern dining. Oh, sweet, sweet crab cakes.
But after the events of last weekend, I am just not sure those numbers can be trusted.
You see, we all competed in the Milford Memories 10k. But “competed” is the biggest overstatement of the year, if I’m being honest. My mom chewed us up and spit us out. And that was just in the first 5k. After that, I got beat by a 7-year-old. But Jim did beat a 5-year-old, so there is justice in this world.
But here’s the kicker. Jim’s Nike+ told him he ran 12k, and my new Nike+ Sportband (pictured above in pink, really awesome, no ipod/headphones needed) told me I ran 8 miles. Last time I checked a 10k is 10k, no more, no less than 6.2 miles. And while math is so not my forte, all of these numbers do not add up.
All that aside, I still stand by my conviction that Nike+ is a great training tool. But technology is only as smart as the people who use it. No one told me I’d have to calibrate the darn thing.
Now please excuse my while my head explodes from trying to figure out how.
