Wordsmith
Just about exactly one year ago, Bastien said his first word: “woof”. And slowly over the months, new words trickled in. Then Bastien turned 23-months-old and suddenly, is there a single word he can’t say?
I love that he will now try to repeat anything, even if he doesn’t quite hit all the syllables. But two Bastien-words in particular are very near and dear to my heart.

Word #1: “Sceam”
This is, of course, ice cream. He talks about it all the time. This is actually all the evidence we need to know that he wasn’t swapped at birth.
What particularly impresses me about his knowledge of the cold, creamy goodstuff is that he also knows where DQ is and will call out “scee-eam” from the backseat whenever we pass by. People, we have taken him to DQ exactly three times in his life, over the span of one long year. Be impressed!
Also, he sings “I scream, you scream…” whenever we are shopping in the frozen aisle. Except it just sounds like “Sceam, sceam. Sceam, sceam…”. Oh, my happy heart.
Word #2: “Home”
This one is clear as a bell. He says it with a lilt to his voice. This is because EVERY SINGLE TIME I pull into the garage while he is my passenger, I declare “we’re ho-ome” with the very same inflection that he has now picked up. But what is extra sweet, is that he recently started declaring it when we arrive at other places, like my parents’ house. Aww.
And then tonight. At Walmart.
I’m thinking we’ll lay off the special trips to Walmart this week.
