Randomness
What a strange week it’s been. Work continues to be uncertain, so in the meantime we’ve been trying to while away our hours in new and interesting ways.
Firsts:
Bastien saw his first movie in a theater: Earth. This went surprisingly well for an hour. A nice break for me too. The movie was beautiful, but a little heavy-handed on the whole circle of life theme. In other words, we watched lots of helpless baby animals get ripped apart and eaten. How relaxing.
A trip to Java Jungle. Not that impressed with the cleanliness – however this was another chance for me to sit on a couch while Bastien enjoyed the play equipment and best of all, independent play. Shew.
No. Most of the rest of the time has been filled with Bastien trying out his new favorite word. Luckily, he is not yet using it in an annoying context. He just really likes to stand around and say noooooo.
Doctor’s Orders:
I am now supposed to be “waited on” at home, according to my doctor (in reference to my high blood pressure). This would be excellent, if only I had a servant. So my solution has been to spend as little time at home as possible, so as to avoid disobeying my doctor. See how good I am?
So yesterday was awesome! After a nice lunch with my in-laws I left Bastien behind to get a fantastic massage–compliments of the doula at my first birth, Lisa, owner of Essential Massage Therapy. I am still a bit overwhelmed by that kindness. Then I treated myself to yet another movie–Sin Nombre. Also fantastic, but totally inappropriate for an emotional mother in the last days of pregnancy. Then I dropped in on my own yoga class. What a neat experience to be on the other side of the mat–so impressed with my sub, Karen. Lastly, I met my life-long friend Alicia for dinner. A good end to any day.
And even though I did not end up going into labor, as was the plan, it was a really great day. The kind of day every mom should get once in a while. And speaking of moms, I am completely indebted to my moms for making this week manageable (as if I wasn’t indebted enough already!) Thanks, with all my heart, for being the closest things to servants I have.
