It’s the JLBs 5th Anniversary!

Not the anniversary of the blog, but the actual union of two souls.

Some reflections from the bride:

I used to be thoroughly bothered by the thought of having to share my soul, but that was before I had a child and found out how lucky I am to have a half a soul to borrow just to make it sanely through the day.

Our wedding day was the actual happiest day of my life. And I can say this without feeling guilty to my children because unlike their birth days, our wedding did not involve an insane amount of pain.

Probably the most selfless thing he’s ever done for me was agree to get a stupid dog. And clean up her vomit. And not even resent me for it. I’m pretty sure I am not as saintly. And that’s why my love for him grows madder by the day.

Some reflections from the groom:

On our wedding day, I was responsible for pretty much just one thing: the morning with the groomsmen. Jessica planned the wedding and reception. Well before the wedding ceremony, all the groomsmen gathered at my house to go out to breakfast. Great idea. This way, everyone’s on time and accounted for. We dropped off the tuxes and headed out in two cars. Of course, the groom does not drive on the wedding day, so I was just along for the ride, which was great. One problem: because I didn’t drive, I didn’t take my keys. So when we got back, we discovered (surprise!) we’re all locked out and the tuxes are inside. Luckily, we had plenty of time, so my dad came over with a spare key and we were back in business. In contrast, the wedding and reception were flawless. Tasteful, elegant, perfect.

We have passed one of the true tests of a marriage: the kitchen remodel. THREE TIMES. And a bathroom remodel with the contractor from hell.

Our wedding cake still tastes pretty good after 5 years. I think that’s a good sign.
