Comcraptic

Ladies and gentlemen of the Internet, we almost joined you in the 21st century today. Yes, us country folk almost had us some high speed Internet.

After a recent three hours spent online trying to book airline tickets and many, many more wasted hours than we should even admit trying to list things on ebay and pay for things with paypal, we just couldn’t take another torturous minute of our s—l—o—w mobile broadband connection. Imagine if you will, making dinner, cleaning up after dinner, giving your bub a bath, reading him 5 bedtime stories and then finally settling in to see if that youtube video you cued up before dinner has loaded yet. And then, realizing… it hasn’t. Yes, this is the pathetic life we have been living for almost two years now. If you know anything about my self-proclaimed computer nerd Jim, you can just imagine the daily agony he endures.

So a couple weeks ago, he calls up Comcast, with a mere speck of hope in his heart that they can do something, anything, to bring us up to speed (excuse the pun). And lo and behold, they assured him that, sure, we too could live in the digital age. In fact, there was absolutely no doubt in their minds that on this very day, we could be hooked up and downloading (lightning fast, I might add) itunes movies like the best of ‘em. Or, at the very least, spending less than 5 hours each time we tried to post our own sweet videos of Bastien.

So Jim gets up bright and early this morning to greet Santa Claus The Grinch our digital intaller. Only to promptly be told… “Hmmm… there seem to be no cable lines anywhere near this place. Sorry ’bout your luck buddy.” All of our hopes and dreams crushed in an instant. Compounded, darnitall, by more hours of missed sleep that we certainly won’t be getting back any year soon.

I’ll leave you with this little gem (please scroll all the way to the dialog at the end), from a blog we both read and love. Please pardon the swear words. And realize, today, we are feeling even dumber than First guy.
