Musings on Toddler Time at the MPL
Today was our first session of “Toddler Time” at the library–a three-week program for 18-36-month-olds.
Here’s what blew Bastien’s mind:
The parachute
The glue stick. Or maybe the lid to the glue stick. It wasn’t completely clear.
Here’s what blew my mind:
He sat and listened to three (count them) stories: The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Hungry Mouse (I’m pretty sure Miss Librarian made this one up on the fly) and a real knee slapper–”Hi, Pizza Man”.
While flying the parachute, we got to rock out to “Hot Potato, Hot Potato” by the Wiggles. A JLB fave!
*sidenote: I loved that I made “eating” noises to keep Bastien interested in the first story, prompting Miss Librarian to start doing the same. I could so have her job.
And finally, here’s what we didn’t like:
Um, the very long and very grown-up introduction by Miss Librarian. When you are one day shy of 18-months-old, details are just so IRRELEVANT.
The boy next to us who decided to punch B in the forehead. Ack!
*sidenote: To be fair, his little sister first pointed to B’s scar, made a sad face, then stroked his forehead. But why this inspired her brother to hit him in the head? I’ll never know. Jealousy is my guess.
