Post-op Solutions

Found a solution last night for getting Bastien to favor one side while sleeping (to reduce swelling on the right side of his forehead). I simply moved his crib light show to the other side. He usually falls asleep looking at it, and this morning he turned it on himself while he was waiting for me to finish getting dressed for work, so now he’s had some quality time on his left side. Also, just in case any parents stumble upon this blog while researching craniosynostosis, metopic synostosis, trigoncephaly or just plain skull deformities, I want to warn you about drainage after the surgery. Bastien’s head bled for a good week following his CVR surgery and managed to ruin plenty of good sheets and clothing. Something we were not prepared for (especially me and my limited maternity wardrobe). But much to our good fortune, we discovered that hydrogen peroxide (3%) applied to the cloth usually takes all the blood out. It’s truly amazing, Mr. Wizard-like magic! Now if we could just find a solution that removes the gobs of Vaseline necessary for keeping stitches from drying out. So far I’ve tried Scrubbing Bubbles (per recommendation) and Dawn dish soap + hot water…to no avail.

Here are some more iphone shots from breakfast this morning.
