One year (not quite)

Bastien’s one-year checkup was today.

No shots, lucky boy. It turns out you have to be officially ONE to get these shots or else they don’t count. And God knows we don’t want to make him get them twice. So he was weighed (24 lbs), measured (30″ – though he measured 32″ last week at the plastic surgeon’s office) and is between the 50th-75th percentile all around. A good, healthy boy they tell us. We were excited to hear he can now eat ALL food with the exception of nuts and honey. Oh, the possibilities!

More exciting than anything, he is officially talking now. Or barking at least. That’s right, his first word was “woof” in response to something Mazzy said. Jim swore he said “woof” in a parking lot last week when he heard a few dogs barking in a car. Well now I can say for certain: it’s for real. He said “woof” three or four times to me this afternoon and it was about the cutest thing I’ve ever heard.
PS. Hey, neat!. Click on the dog at the top of this page to hear how other (almost as cute) kids from foreign countries say “woof woof”.
