Trigoncephaly Metopic Synostosis

We finally have a diagnosis for Bastien’s “rhino horn”, as we’ve so lovingly coined it. It seems this deformity (but I’ll be calling it a “unique attribute”) is a sporadic fusion of the frontal skull plates which happens in utero. Fortunately, Bastien has a very mild version and it shouldn’t cause much trouble, other than a tiny cosmetic difference between his forehead and yours. Unfortunately, we have to go in for a CT scan next week, just to make sure. This will undoubtedly require sedation as there is just no way our 10-month-old is laying still for anything. Ugh, sedation makes me panic a little. I blame this on the influence of my ever-worrying mother.
Anyway, the doctor wants to look at Bastien’s skull from all angles to make sure that it is not crowding the front brain in any way and won’t pose any future developmental issues. I’m trying to look at the upside, which is that Bastien seems to don a permanent Botox expression. Who knows? Perhaps this will lead to some future major poker earnings. Check him out sometime, there are just no wrinkles to be found up there. And please, hope (pray) the best for us.
